External electrification is the network of medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) cabling, distribution transformers, feeder pillars and street lighting that brings reliable power to every plot in a housing society or township — installed largely underground so the finished neighbourhood is clean, safe and free of overhead wires.
It is one of the defining works of modern planned communities in Pakistan, and it is the discipline Deluxe Engineering is best known for — delivered repeatedly for DHA Lahore.
What does external electrification include?
- MV (medium-voltage) network — the 11kV underground cabling that carries power from the grid connection to distribution transformers across the scheme.
- LV (low-voltage) network — the 400/230V cabling that distributes power from transformers to individual plots and buildings.
- Distribution substations & transformers — stepping voltage down for local use.
- Feeder pillars & junction boxes — the connection points that make the network maintainable.
- Street lighting — poles, luminaires and their own supply and control.
- OHWT & permanent connections — coordinating the utility (e.g. LESCO) connection for overhead water tanks and common services.
Why is it done underground?
Underground MV/LV networks are safer, more reliable in storms, and essential to the clean visual standard that authorities like DHA require. There are no overhead wires to sag, snap or obstruct — and maintenance happens at feeder pillars rather than on poles.
How is a project like this delivered?
- Design & BOQ — the scheme layout is translated into cable routes, transformer locations and a bill of quantities.
- Trenching & ducting — routes are excavated and ducts laid, coordinated with roads and other utilities.
- Cable laying & jointing — MV and LV cables are pulled, jointed and terminated.
- Transformers & pillars — substations and feeder pillars are installed and connected.
- Street lighting — poles and luminaires are erected and wired.
- Testing & commissioning — the network is tested and energised.
Who carries out external electrification in Pakistan?
This work is carried out by PEC-registered contractors with proven electrical and civil capability. Deluxe Engineering & Construction has delivered underground external electrification and street-lighting systems for multiple DHA Lahore sectors, including Phase-IX, Phase-XI (Rahbar) and Phase-XII (EME).
